According to the latest report by BoxofficeIndia.com, the film has managed to collect a total of Rs 16.50 crore in its first week at the box office. Despite being a family film, the movie has faced rejection due to the subject on which the film is based.

The plot of the film revolves around the title character Sweety Chaudhary (played by Sonam Kapoor) who is in a homosexual relationship with a girl and goes on to reject several marriage proposals within her Punjabi family while hiding her identity as she tries to come out of the religious, cultural and societal barriers.

Directed and co-written by Shelly Chopra Dhar, 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and also stars Akshay Oberoi and Regina Cassandra. The title of the film is derived from the popular romantic number of Anil Kapoor's 1994 film '1942: A Love Story'.
